Six-year-old's heartwarming triple challenge for homelessness charity after seeing homeless man outside supermarket

A THOUGHTFUL boy of six embarked on a triple challenge to fundraise for charity after spotting a homeless man outside a supermarket.

Nachi Ogbuji was so affected by seeing the rough sleeper that he drew up a plan for a run, bake sale and 24-hour silence in aid of the Archer Project.

The Harthill Primary pupil was spurred on by family as he ran 20 laps of the old pit at Kiveton Community Woodland on Sunday and his after-school goodies sold out in minutes on Tuesday.

And tomorrow he heads to lessons armed with a white board and marker as part of his efforts to go the whole day without speaking.

Mum Beth Hardy said: “Normally, he can talk for England! The school are okay with his idea though, and have been really supportive.

“It all started when we went to Asda one evening a few weeks ago. Nachi said he felt really sad for the man at the door. He was starting to cry and said he would have nightmares.

“He couldn’t get this man off his mind so we started talking about what he could do to help. I knew about the Archer Project, so we went on their website.”

Suggestions on there included doing physical challenges, selling items or giving up something — and Nachi decided to do all three.

His first idea had been to give up his electrical devices for a fortnight.

But Beth (43) said: “About a week later, we were without internet for a few days and he was unbearable! So he realised that might not be the best idea.”

The chosen challenges have worked out well — Year 2 pupil Nachi has already topped his £500 target for the Sheffield-based homelessness charity.

“Nachi is chuffed with himself and we are all really proud of him, obviously. He’s always been really thoughtful and kind, and something of a deep thinker like with the homeless man he saw.

“It wasn’t something he was going to ignore.”
