Seven-year-old girl nominated for Young Achiever of The Year award for helping Ukrainian refugee children

A SEVEN-year-old girl who used her crafting talents to help Ukrainian refugee children is in line for a young achiever’s award.

Ella Harrison, of West Melton, decided to make loom band bracelets after her mum Nicola Drew set up the Support Ukraine Rotherham group with fellow volunteer Maggie Warren.

The youngster sold her creations at school and around her community and collected £100 to boost aid funds.

She has now been nominated for a Yorkshire Choice Award in the Young Achiever of The Year category, which will be decided by a public vote.

Mum Nicola said: “Ella also helped out with our campaign, sorting and boxing up donations.

John Healey recognised her as well — he bought one of her bracelets and said he would wear it at the House of Commons.

“It would mean everything to her to win the award — she’s so excited.

“She very selfless and has donated her own clothes and books. She really deserves it.”

The winners will be announced in June.
