£16m bill for Rotherham's PFI schools and leisure centres

ROTHERHAM Borough Council paid out more than £16m for Private Finance Intitiative schemes in 2010/2011.

The council has two PFI agreements, a contract with Transform School (Rotherham)  for nine primary and six secondary schools and another with DC Leisure to build and run four leisure centres and a joint service centre.

The Transform School deals runs until 2034 and cost £12.64m in 2010/2011.

The DC Leisure contract runs until 2014 and cost £3.94m over same period.

The figures were released in response to a question from Tory group leader Cllr John Gilding.
