MP calls for national CSE task force

A NATIONAL task force should be set up to support police investigating child abuse, according to Sarah Champion.

The Rotherham MP told Home Secretary Theresa May that forces do not currently have capacity to cope with investigations.

After the Commons debate, Ms Champion added: “It would mean when the police are approached with a complex case, the task force can immediately be deployed to shape the investigation, bringing in specialists and hitting the ground running.

“I believe this will provide the best support for victims and survivors and give them confidence to come forward and get justice.”

Ms Champion also labelled the delayed national child abuse inquiry a farce, with little progress in six months other than the resignation of two appointed chairs.
