ROTHERHAM United mascot Miller Bear was in attendance as a coffee morning netted £700 for two cancer charities.

The event was held at the Bevan Crescent Community Centre in Maltby last Friday.

The money raised was for Macmillan and Marie’s Smile, the latter of which is a Maltby charity giving help and support to cancer victims.

Event organiser Keith Stringer said: “Support for this fundraising effort was tremendous and came not only from Maltby, but from other parts of our borough too.

“It was a magnificent occasion. I never thought in a thousand years that we would have raised £700, but we did.”

Madeline Dyson, marketing and communications co-ordinator at Rotherham United Community Trust, added: “We were happy to attend with Miller Bear.

“We brought along a signed ball for the raffle to help with fundraising, and also gave Keith and his wife Carol a personalised signed 60th wedding anniversary card from the full RUFC squad.”
