Liquid nightclub to be bulldozed

LIQUID will be bulldozed and the site used as a car park until it can be redeveloped, under new plans.

But social media rumours of the former nightclub spot becoming a mosque are untrue, the Advertiser has been told.

The building — formerly Tiffany’s and The Zone — has become dangerous through fires and vandalism since its closure in 2012.

The plans said: “In the short term, the site will be levelled and turned into a temporary car park subject to a separate planning application.

“The current building not only hinders redevelopment but is dangerous insofar that vandalism has resulted in a number of fires within the building.”

Liquid was given a £1.5 million revamp in 2007 but declining town centre trade brought cash problems.

Operators Luminar Leisure, who went into administration in 2011, failed to find a buyer to continue the nightclub business.

The plans have been submitted by demolition firm Ron Hull Jnr and do not mention the name of the new owners.

Rotherham Council of Mosques said there was no plan for a faith building on the site, contrary to Facebook rumours.

Chairman Saghir Alam added that 2012 proposals to renovate nearby Chapel Walk Mosque were still active, pending a stopping up order to close part of Hall Street.
