Firefighter completes London Marathon in record time wearing full kit

A WELL-KNOWN firefighter who completed a “gruelling” marathon while wearing full breathing apparatus is celebrating breaking a world record in the process.

Mark Peart (35) achieved a Guinness World Record at the London Marathon on Sunday by completing the 26.2 mile run wearing his full emergency fire-fighting kit in the fastest time ever.

He pushed himself to the limit to finish the race in four hours, 42 minutes and five seconds for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Mark, from Brampton Bierlow, had to regularly change his breathing apparatus during planned stops — such as to hydrate or change oxygen cylinders — to achieve his goal.

A winner of Channel Four’s SAS: Who Dares Win in 2019, he now works for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue as a firefighter.

So far, his JustGiving page has reached over £4,000 in funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, a cause he holds in high esteem.

Mark said: “I wanted to raise funds and awareness around the Fire Fighters Charity and the amazing work they do, whilst also promoting well-being amongst the fire and rescue service.”
