TWO family traumas prompted a couple to organise a special fundraising event to help cancer charities.

Amy Wortley (31) and her husband David (37), of Bray Walk in Kimberworth Park, along with friend Stacey Goldsborough, organised a money-spinning party and disco at Thrybergh Working Men’s Club on Saturday, October 21.

Amy was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer, shortly after her 67-year-old mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Now the couple want to give something back to two good causes which have helped them — Weston Park Hospital and Cancer Research UK.

Amy said: “It’s been quite a year. I lost an uncle and my mum was diagnosed with cancer, and about a week after that I got diagnosed with cancer.

“My mum and I have been supporting each other.

“I didn’t realise how much these charities do until this happened. They support you so much.”

The event raised £1,379 for Weston Park Hospital and cash is still being collected for Cancer Research UK, but Amy said she expects it to be a similar amount.

She added that one company, called Belledorm, gave a £500 cheque to the fundraising pot.
