Engage in politics at MP Sarah’s summer school

ROTHERHAM MP Sarah Champion has put out a call for Rotherham’s young people to consider signing up for her summer school.

The pioneering initiative from Sarah aims to help local young people learn why politics is important to them.

Ms Champion  hopes to use the summer school as an opportunity to engage young people in politics.

It will run from July 28 to August 1 and is open to anyone aged 18 to 24 and living in Rotherham constituency.

Young people taking part will learn how to campaign on the issues that matter to them and hear from a range of speakers including local councillors, community activists and journalists.

They will also learn debating skills and will have the opportunity to run a mini campaign of their own, as well as having a question and answer session with Ms Champion.

The MP said: “I am delighted to be launching a Summer School for Rotherham’s young people.

Politics is not taught in depth as part of the school curriculum, and it’s important that young people are able to learn about how politics affects their lives, what they can do about it and how they can become involved in campaigning on the things that matter to them.

“Young people I have spoken to about the project are really inspired and can't wait to get started.

“I really hope this will change the way Rotherham's young people view and participate in the political world.”

Applications should be made at http://www.sarahchampionmp.com/sarahs-summer-school/ and must be in by Sunday, July 6.
