13-year-old girl runs over 50 miles to fundraise for trip to Nepal to help those in need

A SCHOOLGIRL has completed a challenge to run 50 miles in a month and raise funds to join her friends on a trip to Nepal to help people in need.

Summer Richardson (13), who took on the “World Challenge” at Winterhill School in Kimberworth, hopes to visit Nepal in 2024 alongside seven other pupils, with the aim of building a school.

Her family, friends and neighbours (pictured, right) joined her in her last miles to celebrate her determination and achievement.

Proud mum Amy Richardson said: “Summer has completed her 50 mile challenge. It worked out at just over 51 miles.

“Our event went fantastically — we did pie and peas for everyone and hotdogs for the kids.

“Our local community showed great support, as well as our family, friends — including Katie and Lyle Brownley, Tina Hurst, Jimmy Wilson, Nathan Mase, Ricky Gollick, Paul and Kelly Brooke with Dog Mickey and lovely neighbours.

“Summer completed the final mile with her dad, Gaz, who ran the full 50 miles and sister Brooke, cousins Finlay Ford and Phoebe Hurst, her friend Ella and neighbours Willow Scott and Emily Lunn.

“Her business supporters were there to cheer her on.

“The whole day was overwhelming and emotional, we are so proud of her, as is everyone.

“We want to send a massive thank you for everyone who has sponsored her, and shown her so much support, even more so with how everyone may be struggling with money.”
