Park prepares for dragon boat contest

MORE than 15 teams are gearing up to take to the water this weekend for a leading cancer charity.

The annual Dragon Boat Regatta, which takes place at Rother Valley Country Park from noon tomorrow, raises funds for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and sees teams battle it out in front of more than 3,000 spectators.

During the event, the teams, which are made up of between 13 and 20 people, race in impressive 40 foot Dragon Boats along the main lake at Rother Valley.

Catherine Newman, senior fundraiser at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, said: “We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone come together for the event, which has always proved a huge success in the past.

“The teams always succeed in raising fantastic amounts of money for the charity and we are extremely grateful for people's continued support.”
