Newburgh Engineering lands multi-million nuclear contract

A ROTHERHAM-based engineering firm has won a ten-year multi-million pound contract to supply parts for the nuclear industry.

A ROTHERHAM-based engineering firm has won a ten-year, multi-million pound contract to supply parts for the nuclear industry.

Newburgh Engineering has been awarded the contract by Westinghouse Electric UK and Springfields Fuels Ltd to supply components for use at existing UK nuclear power stations.

The contract was drawn up after Newburgh successfully completed an assessment of its quality control and health and safety and production systems to meet the stringent requirements of the nuclear fuel industry.

Vincent Middleton, managing director at Newburgh Engineering, said: “This is fantastic news for our team, who have been working hard for over 12 months to secure this contract.  

“It is testament to the skills and expertise of our staff and the systems we have in place here that we have been selected from strong UK and international competition to work with Springfields Fuels Ltd.  

“We are looking forward to building on our long term partnership with them as we embark on this exciting contract.”

Newburgh Engineering, which also has a site in Bradwell, Derbyshire, is a specialist contract manufacturer of component parts and assemblies for the nuclear, defence, oil and gas, petrochemical, aerospace and power generation industries.  

Preston-based Springfields Fuels Ltd manufactures fuel assemblies for EDF-Energy’s fleet of advanced gas-cooled reactors.

Around 15 per cent of all the electricity generated in the UK comes from power stations using nuclear fuel manufactured at Springfields' facility.
