New library details available to the public

DROP-in sessions are being held to inform residents of the plans for Thurcroft’s new library.

The plan is for it to move from Thurcroft Junior Academy later this year to a new building next to the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall.

Most of the funding is from Rotherham Council, which says work will start on the new library and neighbourhood hub in June.

Thurcroft Parish Council has also made a financial contribution.

Plans for the new building include mobile shelving to allow for space for meetings, activities and events.

Cllr David Sheppard, RMBC cabinet member for social inclusion, said: “Libraries are an integral hub in our communities.

“It’s so important they evolve to meet the needs of the residents so it’s great to see the site at Thurcroft being developed into what promises to be a wonderful new facility.”

Drop-ins take place at the current library from 10am to 12.30pm next Thursday (13) and from 1.30pm to 5pm on Tuesday, April 18.

The plans will also be displayed at the Gordon Bennett for anyone unable to attend the drop-ins.
