Nepal mercy-mission man praises Wath schoolchildren

A WATH man leading mercy missions in earthquake-hit Nepal has paid tribute to the town’s schoolchildren for lending a helping handed.

Pupils in Year 7 at Wath Comprehensive handed over a donation to help children hit by the devastating disasters in Nepal earlier this year.

The cash was handed over to those affected by Steve Priest, who lives with his wife and three-year-old son in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, and is vice-principal of The British School there.

The school has been supporting other places of learning badly hit by the massive April and May quakes and hundreds of aftershocks.

Mr Priest gave an assembly to Wath Comprehensive School just before the summer holiday while on a visit back to the UK.

He said: “I gave a presentation to the Year 7 group about the earthquake itself and the impacts and about our work with the schools in Dhading. It was well received.

“The Year 7 group raised £1,270 which is a massive effort.

“So far the people of Wath have raised nearly £3,000, which is fantastic.

Wath Parish Church and the C of E primary school have also raised significant amounts.”

The money will be spent funding repair work at schools in the Dhading area.
