Nearly 400 miles ...and the Millers made it worth it!

A MILLERS fan whose love of the club was inspired by the Chuckle Brothers took home a head full of happy memories after travelling hundreds of miles to attend his first game at New York Stadium.

Ryan Munro took the train south from the Scottish town of Buckie — midway between Aberdeen and Inverness — for United’s 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

And the 26-year-old, who has followed the Millers from afar since he was a teenager, was overjoyed when he had the chance to meet his hero, star midfielder Dan Barlaser, and several of his team-mates.

“It was an absolute brilliant day, well worth the travelling and money spent,” said Ryan.

The Advertiser told online last week how Ryan, whose fandom is down to “my love of the Chuckle Brothers”, was looking forward to his first visit to NYS.

And after the Millers got wind of his impending trip, head of community Jamie Noble decided to give the travelling fan a day to remember, ensuring he had the chance to meet players, boss Matt Taylor and chairman Tony Stewart.

Ryan said he had approached Chieo Ogbene after realised he was sitting just behind the injured forward.

“I asked him for a picture at half-time rather than during the match, just so I didn’t disturb him and his family, who were watching the game,” he said.

“At the end of the game while the players were clapping the Millers fans, a guy behind me asked if I was Ryan and if I would come down pitch-side.”

This was Millers man Jamie, who arranged for Ryan to meet Barlaser — who handed him a signed pendant — as well as midfield dynamo Ben Wiles and World Cup ref Howard Webb.

“Dan Barlaser even joked what a horrible shirt I had when he realised I had his name on the back,” laughed Ryan.

The Scottish fan met up before and after the game with two fans, whom he named as Hannah and Jack, who showed him the club’s former home at Millmoor.

Ryan said his trip was part of a personal mission to seize the moment after losing his beloved grandmother in the spring.

“That more or less made me realise: do the things you want to do,” he said.

“Since August, I’ve been to Ireland with my family, Italy with one of my best mates and now Rotherham.

“Hannah and Jack — thanks for everything, it was brilliant to meet you.

“Thanks to everyone who I spoke to and enjoyed time with — it was a pleasure to chat to you and meet you all.

“Hopefully, I’ll be able to come back to more games in the future more frequently now.”
