Music centre stage at Rawfusion festival

MUSIC and arts take centre stage in Rawmarsh this Saturday as the free RawFusion Festival hits the town.

MUSIC and arts take centre stage in Rawmarsh this weekend as the free RawFusion Festival hits the town.

The event has been entirely organised by young people from the Rawmarsh area and is aimed at all ages with a range of live music and arts events running from 2pm.

That will include some of the most gifted musicians from the South Yorkshire music scene, live poetry, a tea dance and a gig with an eclectic mix of music going late into the night.

The South Yorkshire bands will be taking over The Star, Rawmarsh, playing to all ages, with live music starting at 4pm and finishing at 10.30pm.

Another mix of musical styles, performed by some of the best nationwide talent, will be on show at Dickens, Westgate, Rotherham, from 4pm to 10pm.

They will include recently-signed band Violet May, Heebie Jeebies and Radio 1 championed DJ, Checan.

The venue will be linked to the rest of the festival in the evening by a free shuttle bus which will run between the High Street Centre at Rawmarsh and Dickens from 5pm to 9pm.

The High Street Centre will be hosting an afternoon of mixed events for all ages starting at 2pm.

Other performances will consist of a sketch by pupils from Rawmarsh Comprehensive as well as a taster of live poetry, leading up to Rawmarsh's first poetry slam.
