The aspiring aide will staff the MP’s office in Wath, supporting his work and assisting his constituents.

They will bag a full-time job for one year and attend Dearne Valley College for one day each week, earning an NVQ certificate in business and administration.

Mr Healey said: “This shows that apprenticeships aren’t just for people who want to train as plumbers or electricians — there are apprenticeships out there that allow young people to take a first step in a wide range of different careers.

“Nationally, youth unemployment is touching one million and in the constituency the number of young people out of work for at least a year has more than trebled in the last 12 months.

“I want to encourage more employers to offer apprenticeships and I want the Government to do more to help them do so."

The closing date for applications is January 16. For more information on this opportunity and similar ones visit www.dearne-coll.ac.uk/young-people/apprenticeships/apprenticeship-vacancies.
