MP Caroline Flint wants to replace scandal-hit Keith Vaz

DON Valley MP Caroline Flint has joined the race to replace scandal-hit Keith Vaz as chair of a parliamentary committee.

Ms Flint has put her name forward to take become chairman of the Home Affairs Committee.

Mr Vaz resigned as chairman following alleged involvement with male escorts published in a Sunday newspaper.

Ms Flint said: “The resignation of Keith Vaz is a tragedy for Keith and his family, but his work as chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee has been widely praised.

“This committee now requires an experienced, independent-minded chair to take its work forward.”

Ms Flint has served on three select committees during her 19-year parliamentary career.
