Mexborough supermarket plan still on drawing board

TALKS are continuing about the future of a former carpet store almost a year after planning permission was granted for a supermarket.

Last April, councillors backed controversial proposals by Kier Property for a superstore on the former United Carpets site off Station Road, in Mexborough, including a petrol station and public plaza.

Town centre traders and campaigners, who feared the proposals would take shoppers away from the high street, were devastated and felt let down by Doncaster’s planning board.

But 11 months on, Kier has yet to announce any movement on the site and said this week that there was little to report.

A Kier spokesman: “We are still talking to interested parties and will be making an announcement in due course.”
