Members needed for waste plant panel

A RESIDENTS’ panel overseeing Rotherham’s pioneering waste plant is on the hunt for new members.

The Community Liaison Group for the award-winning BDR waste treatment facility at Manvers has spare spots for people to join.

The independent group meets every two or three months and more members are needed to represent the interests of people living in or near the Barnsley part of the Dearne Valley.

Meetings are held in the visitor centre at the BDR waste management facility, which opened in July 2015 and processes around 250,000 tonnes of leftover household waste from 340,000 homes across Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.

Community Liaison Group chairman Steve Emmett said: “It is improving the environment by diverting waste from landfill and turning waste into a useful resource.

“This is a major facility in the Dearne Valley, and it is important that the local community are involved and interested in what is happening there.

“The CLG plays a key role in making sure the voices of local people are heard and we would very much like to see more representation from the Barnsley community in the Dearne Valley.”
