Mankini-wearing bikers arrested

MANKINI-wearing nuisance bikers who were spotted out riding across the borough by bemused members of the public have been arrested by the police.

The 14 year-old boy and 18 year-old man were arrested as part of investigations to locate nuisance bikers.

A police spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said the force had received multiple reports of teenage boys riding off-road motorcycles in Thorpe Hesley, Kimberworth and Chapeltown in a dangerous manner Friday.

The man and boy were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of dangerous driving, public nuisance offences and driving offences.

Further enquiries resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman on suspicion of burglary and theft offences.

Borough councillor Simon Currie said he had spotted the two male bikers on Centenary Way on Friday afternoon wearing mankinis and helmets.

A friend had also spotted them in Chapeltown and caught their antics on camera, he said.

Cllr Currie added he thought it was strange and heard later in the day they had been spotted in Thorpe Hesley driving dangerously.

People were just laughing at them, I wondered if it was part of a charity stunt?” he said.
