Man dies after being hit by train

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called to Meadowhall station in Sheffield shortly before 1pm on Saturday after reports a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from South Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended, but a 29-year-old man from Rotherham was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We have informed his family.

“Officers are not treating the man’s death as suspicious, but they will prepare a file for the coroner.”

The Sheffield Coroners’ Court said the man was from the Wath area and an inquest was likely to be opened on Wednesday or Thursday.
