Man arrested after woman dies in car tragedy

A WOMAN pedestrian died after an accident with a car near High Melton early on Sunday.

Sarah Watkinson (25), of Kendray, Barnsley, died after she was struck by a silver Toyota Avensis as she walked along Ludwell Hill towards High Melton at around 12.50 am.

Police said she was walking with a 25-year-old man, who has been arrested in connection with the incident and is helping with inquiries.

The car driver was unhurt.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Ms Watkinson was wearing a yellow top and the man was wearing a red T-shirt.
