Man (29) charged with dad’s killing

A MAN has been charged with killing Greasbrough dad-of-two Karl Swift.

Dean Hartley (29), of Burnaby Crescent, Sheffield, was due to appear before Dudley Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday), charged with manslaughter.

Mr Swift (33) was found with serious head injuries in Halesowen, between Birmingham and Dudley, on Friday, September 9.

He was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries the following day.

Dean Hartley’s father Dean (51), of Chaucer Road, Sheffield, and Lee Ardon (29) of Broad Inge Crescent, Sheffield, have also been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in connection with Mr Swift’s death.

They have all been bailed to appear before Walsall Magistrates’ Court on November 18.

Det Insp Paul Joyce, of West Midlands Police’s homicide team, said: “We are still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area on Thursday, September 8 into the early hours of Friday morning.

“We still believe there may have been an incident at the William Shenstone Wetherspoons pub in Halesowen prior to Mr Swift leaving. 

“I would urge anyone who was in the pub between 4pm and 10pm on Thursday, September 8 who has not yet spoken to us to call my team.”
