Maltby memories helping to form new exhibition

CREATIVE culture project Flux is collecting memories of Maltby to celebrate the town’s working class history.

Stories and images will be shared on a website — and old photos are set to inspire new artworks.

This week the project — called Picturing Maltby — marked Valentine’s Day with creative activities in a a pop-up space on the High Street.

These included a Love Maltby trail involving 16 shops and businesses and hosted by We Great Ladies.

You can take part in the project at Maltby Leisure Centre Warm Hub tomorrow between 4pm and 6pm

Bring along your favourite family photo on your phone — staff will print it off and you can create a mount to display it in.

Flux Rotherham director Helen Jones said: “We’ve been working with people in Maltby over the last six to eight months and have had such a warm welcome from local residents, businesses and community groups.

“The stories and images that are being shared are full of joy and are a wonderful document of recent and not so recent social history.

“We’re excited to see what happens next.”

The hub, next to Masson’s near the Millindale junction, will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10am to 3pm for the next few months.

The project is being delivered in partnership with RMBC, and Cllr Simon Ball said: “It’s pleasing to see lots of events and activities happening in the local area.

“As a ward councillor, we continue to work closely with the Council's Neighbourhoods team and Flux Rotherham to help deliver exciting events for local residents."

“It is great news that the pop-up hub will have a range of events and activities on offer for people of all ages.”
