HIGH winds have been blamed for an overturned lorry which toppled onto its side on one of the town’s busiest roudabouts.

Traffic continued to flow following the incident as police and firefighters responded to the incident.

Witnesses said that emergency services were forced to remove the windscreen of the vehicle in order to free the male driver from the vehicle’s cabin.

An employee of nearby Fitzy’s Fun Fancy Dress saw the aftermath of the incident.

She said: “It was really lucky that the lorry rolled onto the verge rather than into the road because it could have been extremely dangerous.

“I suspect it was the wind that caused it to roll.

“As I drove past I couldn’t see the driver—it looked as though he’d been freed from the cabin—but the police and fire brigade were still there.

“Traffic was still flowing freely but I suspect they’ll have to close the roundabout and get a crane in to take the lorry away at some point today.”
