Leaping into the unknown

A SPIRITED student will lead the leapers by plunging 150ft at a bungee jump event organised as part of her degree.

Alexa-Rae Kelly (21) has set up The Leap 2016 at Magna in aid of Sheffield Children’s Hospital with three fellow students.

The fundraiser, from noon on March 5, is part of their events management course at Sheffield Hallam University.

And Alexa-Rae, from Stainton, will have double the cause for nerves as she has signed up to jump as well as being marked for her organising skills.

She said: “It’s part of the final year of our degree to organise an event raising money for charity.

“It’s picked out of a hat so we were lucky that we got one as good as Sheffield Children’s Hospital, which has helped so many families.

“I’ve climbed up there for a look already and was okay, just a bit of sweaty palms! A couple of people didn’t even make it up all the stairs.

“I’m starting to get nervous about it because it is extremely high up. We’ll have music, lights and smoke to create an atmosphere. It’s like a leap into the unknown.”

The plunge down the Face of Steel inside Magna is the largest indoor bungee jump in the UK.

Alexa-Rae, whose group is aiming to raise £2,500, said: “It costs £50 to do our jump and everyone gets a free T-shirt marking their efforts.

“The first 20 to sign up will also be given a free photo of them making the leap. We’ve had quite a bit of interest so far.”
