The Britain Stronger In Europe group parked an ad van outside the Town Hall to highlight the number of jobs in surrounding areas linked to trade with the EU.

Mr Healey MP said: “This year people in Rotherham will be asked to make the choice of a generation - does Britain remain as part of Europe and keep all the economic and security benefits that includes or do we risk going it alone?

“I am clear that we are stronger, safer and better off in Europe. Our membership of the EU helps create thousands of jobs, enables our businesses to trade freely in one of the world’s largest marketplaces and allows us to deport foreign criminals — and bring British citizens who commit crimes abroad back here to face justice.

“All of us who believe we are stronger, safer and better off in Europe now have a responsibility to make our case in whatever way we can.”
