JULIE MURDER: we were getting on fine, says husband

THE estranged husband of stabbing victim Julie Gallagher has told a jury he is not guilty of her murder.

George Gallagher (56), maintained that he was on good terms with Julie in the days before her blood-soaked body was found at her terraced Rotherham home last March.

Asked by his barrister Paul Watson QC if he had killed Julie, Gallagher replied: “No sir, I did not.”

Former mineworker Gallagher—nicknamed ‘Judd’—denied regularly beating Julie during their eight-year marriage until she left him after he allegedly put her in hospital four months before her death.

Gallagher was on bail for assaulting Julie in the incident in November 2009 but he claimed they were “getting on fine” when they met in a Rotherham town centre pub three days before her body was discovered.

The trial continues.
