Jobs axed as bakery firm admits cash crisis

STAFF at Rotherham branches of long-standing bakery firm Cooplands are facing an uncertain future after the business went into administration.

A total of 303 jobs have been lost after the Doncaster-based firm went into administration with 39 stores closing and 41 being sold along with the firm’s 26 mobile sandwich vans. The sales secured 259 jobs.

The company’s head office and bakery in Doncaster has been part of the cull.

The retailer, based in Doncaster, had 80 stores, 26 mobile sandwich vans and 562 employees.

Rotherham shops at All Saints’ Square and Herringthorpe Valley Road have closed along with those on High Street in Mexborough, High Street in Maltby, Main Avenue in Edlington and Church Street in Conisbrough.

But the stores at Bawtry Road in Wickersley, Market Place in Tickhill, Frederick Street and Chaucer Road in Rotherham, Laughton Road in Dinnington, Brinsworth Lane in Brinsworth and Scot Lane in Bawtry have been sold.

Adrian Berry and Daniel Butters, partners of Deloitte, have been appointed as joint administrators of Cooplands.
