Hunt for heroes who've faced up to yobs

HOUSING bosses are on the hunt for local heroes who have taken on the troublemakers.

Council housing firm 2010 Rotherham Ltd is appealing for residents to nominate people who have taken a stand against anti-social behaviour and made a difference to their local area.

With only a week or so left to the deadline for nominations for their Taking A Stand awards, 2010 Rotherham said that now was the perfect time to put highlight an unsung hero.

A spokeswoman said: “Do you know someone who has set up a residents or tenants’ group to deal with community issues, established a neighbourhood watch scheme, or supported others who have suffered?

“Or perhaps you know a group that has organised a clean up of rubbish, or encouraged young people to make a positive contribution to the community.

“These awards recognise the commitment and courage of anyone who has tackled anti-social behaviour.”

The awards are open to any individual or group. There will also be a Young Person’s Award for any individual or group of young people that has engaged positively in their neighbourhood and helped to reduce anti-social behaviour.

All nominees must be residents of Rotherham and applications must be verified by someone who can support the application.

This may include a teacher, housing officer, police officer, council officer, your employer, religious representative, MP or local councillor.

There will be a four cash prizes ranging from £50 to £150 and all nominees under 18 must ensure a parent or legal guardian supports their nomination.

The award is supported by Rother Fed (The Rotherham Federation of Tenants and Residents).

The closing date for all applications Sunday, May 1.
