Hospice cash in Megan's memory

THREE caring school communities united for fund-raisers in memory of a former pupil who died aged 11.

Megan Hughes benefited from care from Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice during the final stages of her three-year battle with illness.

Pupils at Brinsworth Comprehensive, Catcliffe Primary and Brinsworth Howarth Primary took part in a sponsored silence and non-uniform and fancy dress days.

Megan—described by her family as happy, enthusiastic, high-spirited and mature—had been a pupil at all three schools.

Brinsworth head teacher Richard Fone said: “The idea came through the youngsters and our student support mentor June Incely, who has liaised with Megan’s family.

“It’s important both for the school community and the family to know that there is recognition of Megan’s life and there will be a permanent place in people’s memories for her.”

Megan’s family said staff at the North Anston hospice had been wonderful during her time there. The charity will benefit from £1,000 raised by the schools.

Hospice chief executive Sarah Champion said: “It was a pleasure for everyone at Bluebell Wood to get to know Megan and her family.

“We’d like to thank all the schools involved for raising this money in her memory.

“This will enable us to provide the care Megan had to other families in the region.”
