Herschell hunting for record-breaking Rotherham Harriers

HERE’S former Rotherham lad Herschell Thompson enjoying the good life in Australia

Herschell was a member of a Rotherham Harrier’s team who set a record-breaking time of 85 hours and 55 minutes for relay running between Land’s End to John O’ Groats in 1962.

Besides Herschell, the other runners were Chris Fleming Smith, Christopher Elson (a former head boy at Rotherham Grammar School), Pryce Gilbert, Michael Hague, Eddie Kirkup, who represented England in marathon and cross-country events, Peter Harrop, Don Newman and Alan Marshall.

“I would love to hear from any of these ex-Rotherham Harriers, a great bunch of guys,” writes Herschell, who now lives in Adelaide.
