Heroin, cannabis and a crossbow seized in Mexborough raids

ARMED police seized heroin, cannabis and a crossbow as part of an operation to clamp down on criminality in Mexborough.

Officers carried out raids on properties on Flowitt Street, Oak Court, Schofield Street, Cowper Road and York Street on Tuesday morning.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences as part of the operation.

Insp Richard Collingwood, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “As a result of yesterday's activity, a significant quantity of heroin was seized from one address, as well as quantities of cannabis from several properties. 

“We also recovered cash, a crossbow, an air weapon and an empty handgun magazine. 

“Possession of such items is worrying and likely to cause concern to the wider community, but I hope they are reassured we have taken this positive action to remove weapons and drugs from the streets of Mexborough.”

The three men - aged 23, 20 and 19 - remain in custody and are being questioned on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug, drug trafficking and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Insp Collingwood said: “In addition to the warrants yesterday, officers from the local policing team carried out high visibility reassurance patrols to offer advice and support to the wider community. 

“Our efforts to crack down on illegal activity in Mexborough will very much continue so we can make our town a safer place to work and live.”
