Help save a life by giving blood for new year

BLOOD bankers have urged big-hearted Rotherham folk to make giving a pint or so their New Year’s resolution.

Less than three per cent of people aged 17 to 70 gave blood in the past year, so NHS Blood and Transplant is urging possible donors to come forward.

“By giving up just one hour of your time you could save or improve up to three lives,” a spokeswoman said.

“You will get a warm welcome, a refreshing drink, and the famous biscuits.

“NHS Blood and Transplant always needs first time donors to replace those who can't donate any more, and to ensure we have the right mix of blood groups to meet patient needs.

“You can help ensure that patients have access to the blood they need, when they need it.”

More than half of current donors are aged over 45 so it is important to recruit younger people to donate blood now and in the years to come, NHS Blood and Transplant says.
