Headquarters demolished

A FOOTBALL club’s base has had to be dismantled after damage caused by vandals made it unsafe.

The cabin, on Pontefract Road, Brampton Bierlow was used by Mind Over Matter FC — a Sunday football team associated with mental health awareness — for changing facilities.

It was targeted by vandals in June, when there was extensive damage caused to the building.

Glass was smashed, doors and windows ripped from sockets, rubbish strewn on the floor, and paint thrown around.

The cabin has now been demolished and removed, while Brampton Bierlow Parish Council said the fencing around the pitch had also been damaged and would need to be replaced.

Mind Over Matter FC had said it had been impossible to keep the cabin open to the public due to it being targeted by vandals.

Rotherham Council condemned the vandalism, calling it a “setback for the community’s road to recovery after a difficult period”.
