Have your say on stroke care and children’s surgery

A FINAL call has been made for the public to have a say on cuts to stroke care and children’s surgery at Rotherham Hospital.

Consultation was extended by three weeks because of a lack of response to the proposals.

The plans would see the hyper acute stroke unit close and children attending Doncaster, Sheffield or Wakefield for certain operations.

Cllr Stuart Sansome, chairman of Rotherham Borough Council’s health select commission, said: “It is vital members of the public feed back their thoughts and opinions to inform elected members whether they support the proposal or not.

“The proposal put forward is to move the hyper acute stroke unit along with children’s anaesthesia service to either Sheffield or Doncaster, whichever is closest for the patient.”

Children’s procedures which would leave Rotherham include general surgery for appendicitis, ear, nose and throat, orthopaedics and urology.

Commissioners Working Together — a partnership of the region’s NHS clinical commissioning groups — said no jobs would be lost.

The deadline for responses is February 14. Visit www.smybndccgs.nhs.uk or call 0114 305 4487.
