Gritters ready as temperatures plummet

GRITTERS are on standby with wintry showers expected to continue across the parts of Rotherham.

Rotherham Borough Council said it had around 5,000 tonnes of salt in stock for this winter and it would be closely monitoring the weather forecast.

The Met Office said wintry showers were likely to continue, even to lower levels, on Friday with a widespread frost and temperatures down to -2 °C overnight.

A few showers are forecast for the weekend but, forecasters said, would mainly fall as rain.

But cold northerly winds could bring wintry showers and overnight frosts on Monday and Tuesday.
