Gothic store crowned top shop
Alternative boutique Mesmerize was selected by shoppers from dozens of independent outlets competing to be named Rotherham’s favourite retailer.
The gothic clothing, jewellery and homeware store has won £1,000 free publicity in the Advertiser, which supported the contest marking shopping scheme Independents’ Day.

Hide AdMesmerize manager Lynda Delizium said: “I’m extremely proud in winning as the quality and service of the independent shops in Rotherham is amazing.
“As a small independent, trading in a recession can be very challenging and this support is astounding and well received. I’d like to thank everyone who voted for Mesmerize.”
She added: “I love my job and there’s never a boring day. I try to provide a hub of information for the alternative scene alongside gifts, jewellery and clothing for sale.”
Skate store Props on Eastwood Lane was the second most popular store, while The Whistle Stop Sweet Shop in Imperial Buildings came third.

Hide AdMesmerize opened in 1995 with a small grant from the Prince’s Trust and will be celebrating 20 years on Wellgate next spring.
Cllr Dominic Beck, Rotherham Borough Council’s Cabinet member for business growth and regeneration, said: “Congratulations to all the businesses who received votes and particularly to Mesmerize.
“Shoppers cited the ‘Aladdin’s cave’ of unique products and fantastic customer service as reasons why it was their winner.”
