A summer holiday ended in horror for an 11-year-old girl after she was seriously injured falling from a theme park ride.

Amber Riley was airlifted to hospital with a broken hand and leg, facial and pelvis injuries after falling eight feet under the track on the Rhombus Rocket ride at Fantasy Island near Skegness.

Now her mum Christina, of Faunmoor Avenue, Thurcroft, has accused the park’s owners of failing to properly supervise children on the ride and demanded that they review safety measures.

“It could have been worse, Amber could have been killed, but thankfully she will be all right,” said Christina.

“I just can’t believe that they didn’t have anyone seeing the kids off the ride.

“There was only one person working on the whole ride.

“I want them to do something about it so that it doesn’t happen to someone else.

“It was a horrible end to the holiday.”

Amber was hurt as she climbed off the ride she had enjoyed with her six-year-old brother Callum.

She was flown to hospital in Boston by air ambulance as her family followed by car.

Amber was kept in overnight after the accident last Wednesday but discharged the following day.

Recovering at home this week, she said: “I slipped between the ride and the platform and then I don’t remember anything until I was lying on the ground in really bad pain.

“It still really hurts when I move and when I walk."

Amber has gone back to school but her mum said that she was still very sore and would need to return to hospital for her broken hand to be checked.

A spokesman for Fantasy Island confirmed that there would be an investigation into the accident but insisted that all rides were regularly inspected and followed health and safety guidelines.
