Funding cuts hitting CSE campaign, warns MP Sarah Champion

GOVERNMENT cuts are harming efforts to beat child sexual exploitation, Rotherham’s MP warned home secretary Theresa May.

Sarah Champion spoke out after the National Crime Agency’s bid for extra funding to support victims in the town.

It also followed news that South Yorkshire Police is set for 850 job losses over the next four years.

Ms Champion said: “How are we meant to bring down child sexual exploitation when the Government are cutting police resources?”

The NCA had asked for additional support for a multi-agency centre to provide help for CSE survivors.

Mrs May said: “We have made money available to the national policing lead precisely in relation to the issue of child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation, and ensured that the National Crime Agency has the resources it needs to be able to do that job.”
