Footballer Chris is paramedic for injured rival

A QUICK-thinking footballer turned into a paramedic after being told an injured opponent would face up to an hour’s wait for an ambulance.

George Morley went down injured in the tenth minute of his side Swinton Athletic’s match against Thorpe Hesley on Saturday.

As the defender told how he was in excruciating pain, assistant manager Andy Billups called for an ambulance to Mexborough Athletic Ground, where the County Senior League Premier Division game was taking place, only to be told it could take up to an hour for paramedics to attend because “they were really busy”.

This prompted Thorpe Hesley substitute Chris Dobson to spring into action and he turned his Vauxhall Insignia into an ambulance of sorts and took stricken George to Mexborough Montagu Hospital on a stretcher in the back.
