Firm on a mission for metals millions

A TRAIL-BLAZING Rotherham firm has announced a new deal which it hopes will see its cutting-edge metals technology moving towards commercial success.

Manvers-based Metalysis, this week unveiled a new partnership with K Home International which sees the Teesside company named as its preferred engineering partner.

Metalysis, which recently announced it had secured £20 million of new investment, has developed a lower-cost process to produce titanium powders for manufacturing firms.

It said the new agreement would “provide additional expertise to support the drive towards commercial-scale delivery” of titanium and tantulum, which have the benefit of being super-strong and corrosion-resistant.

Dion Vaughan, chief executive of Metalysis, said: “This partnership represents a very exciting opportunity to bring together immense, complementary expertise to expand and strengthen our production capacity.

“This combined experience, underpinned by a recent injection of investment, represents a powerful platform for growth, which will enable us to deliver greater volumes of product for our customers and support further innovation in new sectors.

“We are looking forward to playing our part in building the capabilities and strength in our region further and supporting the ongoing development of the northern powerhouse.”

Metalysis hopes the link-up draws together the industry expertise of both companies to progress the commercial application of Metalysis’ technology, further expanding its capacity, lowering production costs and increasing efficiency, which in turn will enable a greater number of companies to license and implement the process.

Metalysis’ technology transforms ores directly into metal powders using electrolysis in just a single step, which can be used to lower the cost of producing high value metal powders such as titanium and tantalum.

K Home has experience in the primary aluminium smelting industry, where it sees opportunities for the Metalysis process.

Andrew Home, CEO of K Home International, added: “Bringing together our team with our partners at Metalysis represents a fantastic opportunity to build on the success of numerous projects that we have collectively delivered over the past few years.
