Firefighters face busy weekend

FIREFIGHTERS around the borough were kept busy over the weekend.

Maltby and Edlington crews attended a car fire at junction one of the M18 at 5.15pm on Saturday.

The Peugeot 206 is thought to have caught fire accidentally, due to an engine fault.

Rotherham station staff attended a scooter fire on Doncaster Road, Dalton, at 2.30am on Sunday.

They left the scene around one hour later. The fire is thought to have been deliberate.

Barnsley station attended a care fire on Bolton Street, Wombwell, at 3.30pm.

The BMW is thought to have been set alight on purpose. Staff left around 20 minutes later.

Dearne station firefighters attended a derelict building on Carhead Lane, Bolton-on-Dearne at 7.30pm yesterday, when a lorry was on fire.

Two crews tackled the blaze until 12.10am today. Its cause has not yet been established.

Dearne station attended a van fire on Queen Street, Swinton at 12.10am today.

The firefighters left the scene around 20 minutes later — the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Another crew attended Tesco on Undergate Road, Dinnington at 1.45am, where several recycling bins were alight.

The crew left the scene at about 2.45am. The fire is thought to have been set deliberately.
