Fire crews tackle food factory blaze

MORE than 30 firefighters tackled a large food factory fire in Thurnscoe early on Tuesday morning.

Crews from Dearne and Adwick attended after a fryer blaze spread to the roof of Dearne Valley Foods shortly after midnight.

Support was drafted in from other stations, and at the height of the fire there were eight fire engines at the scene.

Residents living nearby were advised to keep doors and windows closed due to the amount of smoke.

Firefighters managed to create a “fire break” to stop the blaze spreading to the firm's offices, and also protected a number of oil tanks and several caravans nearby.

Four engines were still damping down at the scene this morning.
