Fire crews rescue travellers as weekend deluge bring floods

FIRE crews have been kept busy this weekend as torrential rain flooded roads around the borough.

One crew from Maltby fire station attended a taxi which had stalled in four inches of water on Peak Lane, Hooton Levitt, shortly before 4.30am.

At 6am firefighters from Rotherham fire station removed another car standing in water on Doncaster Road, Thrybergh.

A third car was stranded under a bridge on Church Street, Swinton at around 7am. Crews from Dearne fire station attended to move it out of harm’s way.

Just half an hour later, two people and two dogs were rescued from a camper van stuck in two feet of water at Hooton Lodge on Kilnhurst Road, Kilnhurst.

One woman was rescued from a car which became stranded under a bridge in three feet of water on Scotch Spring Lane, Stainton.

Elsewhere, firefighters in an off-road vehicle attended a cottage on Worksop Road, Lindrick Common where the elderly occupant was cut off from carers.

A fire service Technical Rescue Unit responded to the call, ferrying the woman to a waiting ambulance.
