Ulley windfarm granted 15-year extension by Rotherham Council

A RELATIVE newcomer to the borough’s skyline has been granted an extra 15 years of life.

Penny Hill windfarm at Ulley has been operational for ten years and had been set to be decommissioned in 2038.

But Banks Renewables have been granted permission to extend the lifespan of the six 132-metre  turbines until June 24, 2053.

The updated plans — approved by Rotherham Council — still include a requirement for the land to be restored to agricultural use once the windfarm is decommissioned.

Another condition of the permission is that if any turbine breaks down for more than six months, it must be removed.

Last month, the same developers were given the green light by RMBC for a solar farm across 287 acres of greenbelt between Dinnington and North Anston.
