Resident's appeal for electric vehicle charging space approved in Whiston

A RESIDENT’S bid to add an electric vehicle charging space in Whiston has been approved on appeal.

Rotherham Council rejected Ann Oliver’s application to create an opening by removing 4.2 metres of a wall on School Street.

RMBC said last December that that this would have a detrimental effect on the character or appearance of Whiston Conservation Area and the setting of grade II*-listed Church of St Mary Magdalene.

But Planning Inspectorate inspector Ian McHugh allowed the appeal. He said: “The proposal is to remove an existing boundary wall at the front of the property to enable the appellant to park a vehicle off the highway.

“The removal of a 4.2m section of wall is proposed.

“I consider that the provision of an off-street space would be beneficial to the appellant given the difficulty in parking and manoeuvring on this part of School Hill.”
