Go green – it’s time to adopt!

A GREEN scheme has seen more than 100 trees planted at Brinsworth — and residents are being invited to adopt them.

The project is supported by the Urban Tree Challenge Fund and Trees for Cities, which helped Rotherham Council gain funding.

The trees have been planted on Bawtry Road and residents can adopt one for free and help to look after it to encourage involvement in the fight against climate change.

Cllr Adam Carter, Brinsworth ward member on RMBC, said: “We are delighted to be launching an adopt a tree scheme in Brinsworth, which is a first for Rotherham.

“As ward councillors, one of our ward priorities is a cleaner and greener Brinsworth. We want to make the community an even better place to live.

“Improving the natural environment through initiatives like this shows how we are delivering on our ward priorities for residents.”

Ward colleague Cllr Charlotte Carter added: “I would like to encourage local residents to get involved by adopting a tree.

“It’s simple and easy to take part. All you need to do is let us know that you would like to take part and a newly planted tree near to your house will be allocated to you.”

RMBC’s woodlands and neighbourhoods teams helped bring the initiative to life — and say the council is still committed to caring for the trees despite adoption arrangements.

A council spokesperson said: “Once you have adopted a tree, all you need to do is give your tree some love.

“This shouldn’t take up a lot of your time or cost you anything. In hot weather, you can water the tree to help support it.

“The council are still committed to caring for the trees, though, your additional care will give the tree the best possible start. If you have concerns about the health of a tree, please let us know.”
