Employers deluged by applicants for Rotherham jobs

HUNDREDS of would-be workers are deluging Rotherham employers with applications when they advertise jobs.

More than 500 people vied for just 12 posts at a new Tesco store in the town centre while nearly Rotherham Borough Council had an avalance of nearly 300 applicants for just three customer service assistants.

The latest unemployment figures showed that 8,540 people in Rotherham were claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance — 5.3 per cent of the working age population — including 2,710 aged 16 to 24.
